Origins sucks because even if they try to imitate the games more, their notion of it is really superficial. But the ashnime is just as shitty, because by trying to artificially make it more surprising and exciting, it barely follows any rules at all.

The power of friendship is not exclusive to the anime or Japanese media in general, and dodging applies to any show based around fighting. People accept dodging in any other series, so I don't see why it's such a big deal in Pokemon.

That's not the case at all. There has been no mention of numerical levels nor do Pokemon learn moves in any set order. You have Pokemon learning moves out of order or learning moves that TM/HM exclusive in the games naturally all the time since TMs don't exist in the anime.

The moral of the story was that numbers weren't everything, not that they didn't exist at all. Even in the actual games tactics can make up for a level disparity. The anime was just finding its footing, things tend to change when your show goes non-stop for 20 years

That was only in the first season, which doesn't really count because the rules weren't established back then. They were still figuring things out back then so they were somewhat stuck between the game mechanics and trying to more "realistic", before they finally went all in on the latter and abandoned the game mechanics entirely.

Pokemon animation is mostly garbage and right now you’re essentially arguing for which pile of shit doesn’t smell the worst. The only time Pokemon animated anything is ever worthwhile is when it’s used in a music video or for shorts like that little scraggy cartoon or the black and white trailers. I don’t know how anyone can even stomach shit like origins or the weekly anime.

People aren't watching it for the plot, they're watching because they want to see what Pokemon battles are actually like and how the Pokemon themselves function when they aren't limited by the mechanics of a turn-based RPG.

The anime was made back when Pokemon was a new franchise. The whole franchise was finding its footing, not just the anime.

Origins doesn't have that excuse. Pokemon was a nearly 20 year old franchise when it came out.

Except it's not. The monsters are in YuGiOh are just holograms. They're not real, they're just trading cards and thus are bound by the rules of said card game.

Pokemon are living creatures and are thus not bound by any rules.
