R/S had the best rematch system:
>Every rematchable trainer were listed with their respective location.
>No annoying phone calls.
>No cooldown.
It's weird that GF never used it again (Without counting ORAS of course).

Once they get a feature right ENOUGH it's never seen again instead of keeping it or continuing to refine it. Gen 6 got online right after the ds games' online were very rough, pss ditched in gen 7. Seasons made some pokemon and optional paths accessible at different times and gave the world a bit more immersion while being easily changed via system clock for players who can't always play at specific points in time, seasons lived and died with gen 5. Lgpe finally lets you use your own pokemon to navigate obstacles in the world without wasting move slots, swsh gives us a lame bike and a taxi service. Battle Frontier in emerald was considered by many to legitimately be too hard or rng dependent, platinum brings it back but more fair then it's never seen again. Every new battle format after doubles has been pretty much dropped the next generation. I can go on...

The problem with the VS seeker was not it's chance to fail, but the cooldown. It's tedious having to recharge it every time when you are grinding for levels.
