I saw it as an acceptable entre into the 3D world. A pokemon Z could have been good, not emerald/platinum good but relatively small fixes (make rivals have better teams, have some of the gym leaders use mega evolutions like in the anime etc) and more added post game content could have made it feel like a game worth the money.

I unironically think the music is the best out of any gen

So did I until some point after the third Gym where things started to fall apart. By the end, I was left feeling very disappointed. I still like XY but for the what it could have been as opposed to what it is.

Agreed on the music. I literally bought the soundtrack after I noticed the music getting stuck in my head so often. I was shocked how memorable it was. The games really did need a third version. They could have been so good.

A stupid gimmick that was tedious and more expensive to use. Vitamins are way simpler and it makes sense to go to someone and have them reset the EVs for you.

Yeah the first three gyms are actually really spread apart, it makes it feel like the game will be really long. But then after gym three the pacing ramps up and you just shotgun them.

Tell me about it. The game is almost schizophrenic. They were clearly going for another Gen 5 epic and then just stalled when the 20th anniversary came around. Nowhere is that more apparent than with Lysandre. The story was definitely going somewhere else before that point.

Difficulty wise, that's it. It still manages to be even because the core gameplay is the fucking same, they did nothing to save the speed or QOL issues when Gen 6 got it perfect, and they're scam rehashes that got split in two for the first time when Gen 6 suffered from not getting one and would have benefited from it more.
