Why do people hate this gen so much? Or more specifically Sinnoh?

DP weren't as bad as RS or BW1 but those games are looked upon more favourably.

Fucking this. Pokemon games has always been too easy, even braindead children can beat it easily, so the only enjoyable aspect that could be challenging was competitive. Gens 3, 4 and 5 were guilty of featuring a fucking cancerous method to get competitively viable Pokemon.

Mostly agree with the points this anon raises.

Fair but online was in its infancy still so it gets a pass.

As opposed to Woobat fucking everywhere & the monkeys in nearly every other trainer battle. BW had worse variety.

Cynthia & half the legendaries are wanked nearly as hard as Kanto. The characters were memorable compared to Gen 3 & 5. The anime only character Paul is also really popular as far as anime standards go as well & beat anyone in most gens.

Its a kids game whose first priority isn't to be competitive. If anything it made sure that comp fags didn't shit up online or the gts at first.

Platinum, two weeks ago because I found the cart after having lost it for around 2 years. I hated every moment but played through all of it regardless to see if time would have changed my opinions on the game. It didn't. Fuck Sinnoh and fuck gen 4.

I don't remember any other generation requiring you to have 2 HM slaves, or if you'd rather spread out the HMs throughout your team, basically lock you into using them.
You only really needed Surf in gen 5, and in gen 6 HMs were mainly for extra stuff like berry trees.
If you want to fully navigate through Mt Coronet alone you needed Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Rock Climb, Defog, and Waterfall. Even going though it in the main story you needed all but the latter 2 listed.

Gen 4 was extremely cancerous with HMs. It was so bad that they literally made a first route shitmon learn all but one HM. Cut, Whirlpool, Rock Smash, Rock Climb, and Strength are all straight-up bad moves that you would want to dump on an HM Slave, and you're typically going to want to run either Surf or Waterfall on a party member, but not both unless there's really nothing better to teach them.

It's just I've never had too much trouble going through Sinnoh. Setting up a Bibarel with the worst hms isn't too bad. I didn't even use a bibarel on my recent run. I just put surf, waterfall, and rock climb on an empoleon and used move deleter to get rid of the latter 2 when I reached the Elite 4. I find some of the hms like strength and fly to be useful as coverage too. Strength isn't super effective on anything but I'm not complaining about a free 80bp move.

I used to hate DP but I went back and replayed pearl about two months ago and actually had a lot of fun with it. It’s slow as fuck for sure, and it sucks if you like fire types, but it was an enjoyable playthrough.
Mostly, the strength for me was passing through Mt. Coronet at different points throughout the game is pretty fun. I like how it’s a big cave that connects through the whole region, and then the climactic journey to the summit through the snow with the excellent music.

Not that anon, I just played nuzlocke bw and damn, there are literally only 10 pokemon until you get to 7th gym. Then what feels like most of pokedex is just dumped on you. And they really added barely and new water types and give you rod only in post-game, since my monkey got critted it left me with literally only 2 options to get water type. Still enjoyed the playthrough, but they really crammed too much of new awesome pokemon in like last 30 minutes of gameplay.

Prior to gen 5, the player was given vague hints that IVs even existed. It's like Game Freak didn't want the player to have control over them. This very complaint would've lingered into gen 5 had the destiny knot not gained the ability to pass on IVs. Be glad you are told the pokemon's highest IV stat right off the bat in DP. You didn't have shit to work with in Emerald until the Battle Frontier.

Blame GF for pushing this retarded "every pokemon is different" bullshit every game.

Does any anon know how to fix a broken physical HeartGold DS cartridge? When I plug it in my DS lite and 2DS XL, as soon as the cart touches the contacts of the handheld, it turns off. I think the actual cartidge is giving the system a short circuit.

Does anyone know of any troubleshooting methods for DS carts? (I've tried all the cleaning techniques).

Would be a shame to lose this gem.

My personal issue with the the game was just how boring the game was up until around the 7th gym and even then you had to backtrack through the mountain to get to the legendaries. hoenn was half water but you still got 3 cities to break the monotony.

yes for the 2DS (it allows for hot swapping) but as soon as I put it in there, the screen goes black. if I remove the cart, wait a few secs, the home screen come back on.

on the DS lite, it won't even turn on with the game plugged in first. (DS lite works fine tho).

See, all of those areas are memorable and I can tell which dungeon it was and almost exactly what part of the dungeon. But with Sinnoh, I know the one on the left is in one of the clearings of Mt Coronet but on the right I can't remember if it's Stark mountain or Victory Road. The level curve is the single biggest flaw with GSC and their remakes, deny it all you want but facts are facts. I don't see rain or sandstorms impeding visibility in the games (though they added the disgusting defog shit for gen 4 ONLY, and for good reason). The marshes, fog, and snow along with the atrocious battle system make gen 4 feel like a slog. I own multiple games from every generation and I can count the times I've replayed DPPt on less than 5 fingers. The move split was the only memorable thing about it.

I could live with Saving A Lot Of Data and the encounter distribution being mediocre but the fact that you need 5-6 HMs to get through Victory Road along with story progression basically needing you to keep a pokemon that only knows HM moves if you don't want to teach any to your main team is pretty much a deal breaker in terms of replayability nowadays.
