>>45030291Don't get me wrong, I love XY more because it had some much needed modernization in the form of customization, better online, qol features like super training, amie leting you feed/pet/play with your pokemon outside of battle, and Lumios city being a large city you could actually explore. But if you think that downgrade in writing from a villain at least trying to win over the hearts and minds of the people to a literal who motivated by his vague dreams of a more beautiful world with an admin in the e4 that gets no explanation is cutting less corners you're mad. Also gen 5: included actual quests for legendaries/mythicals, the lore was relevant to the themes of the game for more than 20 minutes, seasons, triple and rotation battles, they looked terrible but they at least put in the effort to animate the sprites in battle, tried to make combination moves more of a thing but was poorly executed compared to existing strategic combos like rain dance-thunder, medals were a form of achievement and encouraged trying different elements of the games, dream world gave us a bunch of mini-games and a new ball plus access to hidden abilities while it lasted, region has more dungeons to explore that are more than a couple of hallways, and it didn't crash when loading in assets between overworld and battles the way the 3ds games frequently do on older versions of the console despite gen 5 being towards the end of the ds's lifespan with several revisions having been out for years and XY was released when the 3ds was out for 3 years, roughly the middle of the system's lifespan. That and for now the 3ds still has official online services so it's not as dead as gen 5 and before so it's a reasonable cut off point for retro in the specific case of pokemon as opposed to gaming as a whole.
