Welp, I just bought Pokemon Shield. It's still downloading so I don't have any initial first impressions. What should I expect?

A boring and meaningless story, worse version exclusive characters and pokemon than sword, one decent rival, a shitty story arc that makes you do chores in the post game, shitty online connectivity for wild area, just a shit game really, have fun.

If you like the core gameplay you'll like it until you beat the 20 hour campaign and then realise there's nothing to do unless you're into online competitive battles

Pretty meh main campaign.
Raids are okay.
Extreme convenience for getting mons online-ready.
All in all, it's for onlinefags. But it's still pretty Pokemon. The sports theme is pretty nice. Characters are alright and inoffensive.

A game that opens up with a lot of potential, has some pretty okay characters, but hangs on sub-par plotlines. Also the DLC content does some stuff better than the main game does, which makes the main game a little more disappointing.

Your average Pokemon experience. It'll be worth it or not, depends on what you make of it.

I personally love the game, story was great and I enjoyed it. Though it does have its flaws for sure.

I played it on Yuzu. I don't know if playing it from free makes me able to only focus on the good stuff rather than the bad or what it is but.. as shit as this game is, I genuinely hadn't had so much fun since I played Black. Loved the Gym Challenge, the characters, the rivals, the music, I even found Dynamax to be fun. Yeah, the games are unfinished and unpolished crap but I can't help it, it's still very entertaining and fun.

Because they don't feel they have to I guess. In their own words they used to lack games with more because you used to buy a game and then that was it. But now kids have their smart devices so they dedicate less time to a single game.

Welp, I'm back.
The handholding element of the game just kicks you in the head without holding back.
>In Wedgehurst, exit the Pokemon Lab, given a Potion.
>20 steps later (yes I counted) you run into Hop and he gives you the Pokemon Center speal.
>12 steps later, Hop says stupid shit.
>As soon as you're at tall grass Hop is there again, waiting, again.
>Then Leon the Undefeated Champion comes and gives you 20 Pokeballs. Have I mentioned he's the Undefeated Champion, he's also a HUGE Charizard fan!
That within the first hour, and it doesn't let up. I'm at Turrfield right now, and they've dedicated multiple cutscenes of Sonia's Yamper walking. What the fuck.

There is no 8th gym. You just teleport to a room, battle two trainers, and then battle the best gym leader.
Don't expect to explore the wild area when you get there. You can't go anywhere but where the game wants you to because the other exit is blocked off.

Slow gameplay as you're interrupted every two steps by (insert NPC here). If you've played Gen 7 this will be familiar.
Undeniably the worst story in the franchise, somehow worse than XY.
Railroaded from point A to point B with little freedom to branch off.
Wild Area will wow you for like a minute then you'll quickly realize it's just a barren wasteland.
Frequent immersion breaking.
Frame rate issues.
Models popping into view only when you get super close to them.
A super lackluster OST.
And most importantly, Buyer's Remorse.
