You have stuff like:
- Grotle being slower than Turtwig because it's 10x heavier
- Melmetal being immune to Whirlpool because it's too heavy
- Muk being immune to pretty much any physical attack because it's made of sludge
This is what Pokemon battles are actually like, that was the whole point of EP009 which had that shitty simulator that's turn-based like the games.
