Better then megas in a lot of ways since it calls back to Pokemon's kaiju inspirations and has generally better designs but mechanically its real awful due to how much the game is centralized around it.

Tajiri explicitly cited bug collecting as the primary inspiration, and Pokemon were never intended to be giants. Monster designs were inspired by toku, that's as far as it went.

Even arguing that dynamaxing remains "in the spirit" of that toku inspiration, you can just as easily argue megas are equally in the spirit since transformation(even for monsters) is a long standing trope of the genre.

Transformations are much more a hero thing than monsters but megas aren't completely disconnected, just dmaxing fits in better. It's a decades old trope for the really strong monsters, especially big bad leaders, to transform, too. It's not uncommon at all.

its good. It makes pokemon with good movepools viable.

Having steel/ground coverage means free DEF and SP DEF boosts

Having fighting or flying moves means snowball ur offense

Too bad smogon cucks banned it without giving it a try. its just 3 turns and has a ton of counterplay (stalling it out with good switches, intimidate, etc)

It was good. Kaiju pokemon was a nice way to play up the actual stadium gym thing. Also a ton of kaiju resurgence films came out at around the same time, 2 godzilla life action movies, 3 animated anime style godzilla movies, a king kong movie, pacific rim 2 a couple years before, ultraman animated. etc. It was really solid timing on GF. They knew which way the wind was gunna blow and they new they could make a better version of the megas concept while appealing to 90s fags
