Back then we also used lots of slang but we used mostly acronyms like LOL, BTW, ROFL, LMAO, OMG! all in caps, but they all actually meant something. Nowadays people just create weird new words, or combine two into a new thing, or use words with different meanings altogether, oftentimes I legitimately can't understand what they're trying to say.
