>>45054920I think we need to compare both with original Slowking and understand them better.
Slowking's original design conveys a sense of royalty, elegance, and enlightenment. The way it holds its arms like a wise elder, the flair of its neck frill, and compared to Slowbro, the smoothness of its "crown".
G-Slowking feels more sinister than enlightened, I think. Its eyes are shrouded by the crown, and the crown's eyes replace it with a sort of smug expression. It gives it a sort of poker face, not fully knowing its expression, and invokes the idea of a person with "ulterior motives". The idea of a leader is still there, but now it feels like something along the lines of an cultist or occultist leader rather than a king or queen.
I'm not really sure what the point of this redesign was. Why did they make the crown more jagged and whatnot? Not even the original Slowking's crown is jagged like Slowbro's, I think that's an important thing that sets them apart. Why does the crown's jag replace the teeth? Even original Slowking's crown has teeth, albeit hard to see.
Why is the frill more tattered? It just looks less like a king, leader or even intelligent. Not even gonna bother addressing the eye change.
I think the only thing that the redesign improves on is that you can slightly see Slowking's eye, but there just doesn't seem to be any deeper thought put into redesign and why the original looks the way it does.
