And in the battle chats the standard fare was creative heckling of champ and the opponent. Yeah, there were spammers, but those guys were looked down on. The champs were more likely to be good then too. Even the bad ones were entertaining, though. Morfent losing to A$h was fucking classic.
But somewhere along the line, the good champs stopped champing, and a bunch of kids that act like redditors filled up the community. Now we have Pokemon suggestions that are essentially the rage faces of Showderp. You got Boom Boom, Blood Totem, Shrekle, the whole crew. And instead of the clever commentary with the occasional spam, now we have spam with the occasional clever commentary. Apart from that, champs that aren't complete morons are rare.
Of course, the idiot champs aren't even entertaining because they just copypaste their sets from Smogon...and another thing. Back in the day, yeah, we'd heckle a champ if he fucked up, but it was a joke, and if he wasn't thick skinned enough to take it we didn't need him. But now all these kids are just spitting hot fire at the champ if he messes up and they're serious about it.
I'd tell you to think about all this and try to turn it back around, but it's obviously too late. It's a shame that something so cool was swallowed by reddit kiddies so quickly.
