What's not a good reference?

But sure, keep coping that another third party effort proved once again that literally any other group can make something better with the IP than it's current handlers.
The current state of SWSH flopping in comparison to other Switch games and children no longer being interested in the series when Pokemon could be so much bigger is proof of this.

Can't remember a single thing from X, Y, despite playing through about 3 times. So maybe I'm missing appeal somewhere.

Sun and moon are unplayable up until about 3/4ths and then shit again til UB hunting. The professor and the rival were the MOST annoying characters I've ever witnessed in any video game. Popping up every 3 minutes to say nothing and blocking forward momentum.

People prob just like these gens for the kawaii underaged characters and mentally fucking their fantasy monsters.

That's the appeal. The games are incredibly meh within the scope of gens 3-5, but are also the single most replayable games. The fact that Gens 7 and 8 went back on everything that made it good just retroactively make the games seem godlike, doesn't mean they're anything special outside of being tolerable to actually play though.
