Would the people who want Heavy Duty Boots removed be ok with removing it if it meant also removing the move stealth rock?

That would make flying and levitating pokemon extremely good, because spikes/tspikes/wevs would exist but rocks wouldn't. However, they wouldn't even need to give up an item slot for HBD or risk HBD being knocked off in this case

Maybe change it to do typeless damage, but no stealth rock at all means switching is free and stall becomes way more powerful.

Remove boots, keep stealth rock. But 2x damage is reduced to 1.5x and the 4x against stuff like fire and flying combos does 2x instead.

No, switch damage is good. Rocks could maybe see a damage nerf and/or have Rock types absorb them on switch-in, but removing them entirely is ridiculous for reasons already stated.

Switch damage is anti-stall. The last big gay stall meta in gen 2 only had 1 layer of spikes with which to punish switches. The stall is so big now is because of the removal of too many offensive mons/moves, the introduction of powercrept unchecked stallmons, and stupid shit like Regenerator

SR doesnt only affect "switch", it affects any pokemon entering the field (even for the first time)
And to offense mons, losing that many HP as soon as entering matters a lot, unlike for stallmons

This way it BTFO switchfags but doesn't make Charizard, Volcarona, Frostmoth...etc literally unusable

HO is all about maintaining pressure and double switching to ensure your opponent can't gain momentum, losing a bit of hp every entry doesn't even factor as long as we ensure a good trade, hell sacking a Pokemon is often a blessing since you can resume the pressure on the opponent with the free switch in

HO doesn't care about minor chip damage on itself, stall, balance and bulky offense does

A better solution: Make Stealth Rocks have WAY less PP. 32 uses of SR is too much. There's no downside to getting them spinned / defogged away because you have 31 more chances to set them up.

Give Stealth Rocks 3 PP (5 with PP Max) and there, no need for boots. No need to nerf SR. simple as.

Removing Stealth Rock would just re-invent the problem we have now where stall is way too good. I'm not a neurotic Smogon hater but this is really just a problem with them sticking to 6v6 Singles. It's a sinking ship and they should try 6v6 Doubles instead

Where did you even get those smogon numbers?
Doesn't even make sense when there can be 20k people online at any one time, it's not even possible for that to translate to 20k over a 24 hour period

The front page literally tells you how many people are online. right now it's about 12K. It's pretty reasonable to assume that number would be similar with people in different time zones when the North American players aren't playing, so that would be 24K, but probably closer to 20K. A lot of competitive Pokémon players are American. There's only ever like 1 or 2 Canadian players, and a few European players, but it's mostly Americans and East Asians. Even if Smogon gets 30K visitors, that's only less than a tenth of what ranked doubles was at last month. So much for it being the main competitive scene.

The number on the front page is the number of visible users, most accounts are hidden now and the actual number is around 40k daily. Showdown as a platform gets more monthly users overall but because it supports a billion metas none come close to reaching the popularity of the cart metas.

It's supposed to be unique visits but sites like that over-estimate. The actual number probably does break 1 million though. It's mainly randbats people, it's by far the most popular meta on Showdown to the point where they've made randbats for older metas and doubles. People just come in battle and leave, I've been playing Showdown on and off for 8 years and the only time I ever chatted was when Showderp had a room up
