Technically you can catch one on the Isle of Armor at a lower level if you had the DLC before becoming Champ. The way the island is designed it really feels like it's supposed to be a supplement to the main campaign.

Yes I am. The point of the thread is late game encounters ruining evolution levels. You can dislike late game larvitar and call it a mistake, but it being at a low level during the endgame in gsc saved its ass from the problem that late game gen 5 pokemon and noibat have. If gf had the same philosophy back then, Larvitar would be caught in its 40s and wouldn't turn into pupitar until its 50s.

Archeops is really good in-game, though. Acrobatics is a level-up move for it, and keeping its HP above the Defeatist threshold is really easy when Stealth Rock and double-targeting aren't a thing and you're allowed to use items.
That said, it definitely deserves Early Bird as a Hidden Ability after all these years.

You mean Jhoto. Unova gave you not one, but TWO extremely easy ways to grind Pokemon. Hell, both of them even compliment one another. I swapped half my party around the 7th gym in BW2 and got them up to speed in less than an hour in-game time.

Archeops is possibly the single best flying mon for in-game purposes in the entire franchise.
Only other candidates are Fearow in GSC(because of the stupid mechanics, it's the best mon in that game) and maybe the Starly line in Sinnoh.
Corviknight is busted in Sword and shield, but Rookidee and Corvipage are far less impressive.

Is this ever worth it in game? Mach punch and headbutt breloom just demolishes everything. I get spore is good for competitive or a “complete” breloom but for just beating the game I never got the appeal of keeping a shroomish into the 40s.

The gist of it is that after you've earned Whitney's gym badge, your Normal and Flying type moves will receive a ~26% power boost for the rest of the game. Fearow is the best Normal/Flying-type available at that point, and the game gives you a Spearow with the traded Pokemon EXP bonus for free. Between (Drill) Peck, Return, and Mud-Slap no, really you can pretty easily sweep the rest of the game with just Kenya.

It had the audacity to have a higher BST than Arcanine without it being a (pseudo)legendary or ultra beast.

I think they do need to retcon some of BW's evolution levels; e.g. Hydreigon line needs to be swapped over to the rest of the 600 Club's Level 30/55 evolution structure, and some of the late-game Pokémon (e.g. Braviary) are conspicuously annoying with their level up being bizarrely late.
