Something's definitely changed recently and in case you people haven't noticed, Nintendo has been making moves these past few years to keep a tighter grip on their IPs in general and keep securing their independence and to make sure the products they put their name on are presented in a certain way
Now, does that mean Ninty will "Make the games better"? Not neccesarily, Nintendo are pretty hands-off in most of the actual development processes, especially when it comes to their partners, but they are also known to be very devoted to QA and stick their noses in a lot of the backstage proceedings if the quality might end up questionable (see: their steering of Platinum's projects with Astral Chain and W101, Eternal Darkness with Sillicon Knights again)
