Aside from drawing a direct parallels to something American (Crip-Blood gang wars, or arguably politics), the Dexes really hammer home how incredibly dangerous they are. The red look more rowdy and have a good taste (hence Reckless - it's more willing to risk itself in order to do more damage to others), while the blue seem more methodical, have softer fins and have a blander taste (hence Rock Head - this protects itself from its own attacks.)
They're really underappreciated.
