I think that's one of the reasons why zoomers who started with Gen 3 and later call Gen 1 mons "literal animals" and Gen 2 ones "bland and forgettable".
Zoomers have never experienced the original feel of Pokemon, back when it was the "simplest" of all the Japanese games about monsters
