The anime didn't even know what it wanted to do and breaking free of Shudo's rules was the best thing to happen in some respects.

Birth of Mewtwo radio drama was probably hands down the best writing of the original series era. Yes super dark and morose by Pokémon standards but it took risks and allowed Pokémon to briefly reach a wider audience than just kids (Shudo said he intentionally wanted to appeal to parents with it's darker themes on cloning ethics)

Is there any reason to watch the anime beyond the Johto league? It seems like it would be better for one's sanity to pretend it ended there. /padt/ is a complete shitfest reeking of autism and it's not even fun, it just seems soulsucking. Nobody seems happy and I can't imagine why you would commit yourself to be constantly disappointed OR forcing yourself to cope with receiving and enjoy dogshit.
