Considering the fact that Nidoking can learn most TMs you can toss at it, I feel like evolving early is better than preserving Nidorino for a few useful moves.

Honestly I don't hate Gen 2, but I hate how fans of it will deflect any criticism of it. They try to spin the level curve as "not a big deal" and they push the annoying "soul / comfy" meme.
