I beat RS as a kid that didn't even know english in 23 hours, 22 hours for BW, and I didn't bother checking but I recall that SwSh was roughly that too. Notice how ever since the gym challenge ended the story has started to turn Sonia's subplot from the main game into the main focus? Even the postgame story focused on her and IoA introduced the Vespiqueen mystery that gets picked up again in CT due to the datamine revealing another Vespiqueen event there.

Crown Tundra still brings us back to the sports theme with the Galar Star Tournament though, and the bulk of the Isle of Armor's story dealt with Avery/Klara and Mustard, who are both very much tied to the Gym Challenge lore.

You don't know that. Hop only appears in the Isle of Armor at the very end in the "Scenario that is only unliked after you beat the main game".

It is very possible that Sonia will too be another case of "shows up at the very end, because she can only show up after you've done the post-game story with the wolves"

True, but the rest of the DLC is exploring mysteries with Peony. It has 4 story related chapters linking to the various groups of legendaries. The Star Tournament is a side thing that unlocks later on and might not even unlock until you've beaten the entire story, because Marnie is a gym leader in the Star Tournament.

The CT was already said to be the "exploration" DLC. The Star Tournament definitely isn't the main focus. The focus is on all the weird happenings in the CT that Peony's investigating and that Sonia will at some point join you in investigating.

Star Tournament will be very late content in the DLC since you're champion already and Marnie's a gym leader. It's also what was teased in the postgame story when the gym leaders all told you to give them a call if you ever needed something and they'd help you out.

that's the point of the national dex and transferring from previous games.
You can't acquire all the pokemon in the game, but if you have them from past games then you can use them, breed them, trade them, etc.

You guys forget Ho-oh and Lugia in the Sevii Islands? The tower with the Weather Trio in Johto, and Lati@s in Kanto? The Kanto birds in Sinnoh, and then Kalos? The Lake Trio in Unova?

Every Gen they have to make sure most, if not all, Pokémon are obtainable, including legendaries. As time went on, this stopped being feasible to do without literally having dozens of portals and shit to them all.

Crown Tundra is going to have the three birds, and Calyrex, and at least two Regis, if not all six, to find via exploration and quests, which makes this the most amount of naturally encounterable legendaries we've had since Gen 5 pre-portal legendaries. And that's not even mentioning the fact that we're STILL getting the rest in portals on top of the other stuff (or dens, whatever)

So yeah, I think this is fine.

I would guess that the Calyrex and Ultra Beast chapters are post-game, while the bird and regi chapters are available from the start. The legendary birds are almost always available before the post-gane when they appear, and IIRC the regis are too. Compare that to Ultra Beasts, which are locked until late in SM/USUM. Calyrex is probably the final chapter.

I've had a theory since before release that Raid Dens are actually Ultra Wormholes. It would make sense if you got deeper in and eventually portaled into a legendary's den, similar to the Warp Ride in USUM.

Next year is the 25th anniversary of the franchise and the 15th anniversary of DP. So a gen 1 or gen 4 release seem likely. But it's GF as you said, so it could be just about anything.

Release SwSh 2 that finishes the dex while at the same time reusing most of the assets. And then the year after that release an expansion pass for SwSh 2. That way gen 9 gets an extra year of development.

It's most likely DP remakes. There's the other issue, they only see the paired games as the exemplars of the region (they talk more about Red/Green or Ruby/Sapphire in relation to Generatiions, rather than the "superior" follow-ups), assuming they'll remake a third version is folly, especially when HGSS lifted everything wholesale from GS before the added Crystal storyline around Suicune for padding and ORAS didn't bother adding any of Emerald's changes to Hoenn.

In one of the trailers, you see an Articuno flying, not in a cutscene but just in the overworld as the player runs around.

The Regi's are shown to be found in at least one temple in the world, and one of the trailers shows a room reminiscent of the Gen 4 versions of the puzzles to access them.

Calyrex has been shown in battle shots implying you'll have to fight and catch it.

So for these Pokémon at least, it's all seemingly classic methods of encounter and capture.

The rest will be in the Den Exploration feature.

By that I mean for Pokémon that wouldn’t make sense being in the region they can just do the regional form thing. Also I hate the Wild Area it’s the most laziest thing they did why have the Pokémon show up on the overworks if they all basically do the same thing either chase you or just walk around. Plus the Wild area didn’t have anything to really discover. The routes should’ve just implemented some of the features from the Wild area and been bigger.

Sword Shield has no random encounters though, which are most of the playtime of any Pokemon game. Not to mention that the movement speed in the game is objectively faster than in any previous game due to them setting Bike speed thinking of the Wild Area in mind.

Scorbunny learns a fighting move at level 12 that takes of of Hop's normal types and Team Tell's dark types. By the time you get to Milo Raboot knows the physical fire move Flame Charge and has a piece of Charcoal. You can easily evolve Yamper into a Boltund that knows Spark by the second gym that's holding a Magnet. Drednaw's rock move it learns when it evolves will take down Kabu's fire types especially if you give it a Hard Stone. Better have some Burn Heals on hand too. Corvisquire with Sharp Beak takes down Centiscorch and then Bea's fighting types. Or if you're playing Shield you have plenty of Pokemon that know dark type moves that will also help you against Bede. Corviknight makes quick work of Opal. Drednaw wrecks both Gordie and Melony with Smart Strike. Piers can get wrecked by Cinderace and Dubwool that know fighting type moves. Luckily your Obstagoon knows Pin Missile to deal with Malamar. You can buy the Ice Fang TM in Hammerlocke so that Drednaw can take down most of Raihan's team and then you can finish Duraludon off with Cinderace. From there Cinderace will take care of Macro Cosmos. And you use the same counters from previous matches against everyone in the tournament while keeping in mind that Bede changed typing. You have a change of paralyzing Eternatus with Cinderace's Bounce or you could exploit its weaknesses with Drednaw's attacks. After that you take on Leon with Cinderace vs Aegislash. And then Drednaw's Ice Fang vs. Leon's dragons and luckily by now Boltund knows Play Rough. Boltund will also take down Inteleon while Cinderace deals with Mr. Rime. Then switch to outspeed Charizard or wait for its gmax to wear off and finish it with rock, water, or electric attacks.

I think it's less "they planned you to make your team before the professor's house" and more they more or less accidentaly made everyone in the Pokedex decent. Galardex monsters all have good stats for single player. Even Stunfisk would be useful for a kid playing the game since it has so many resistances and good HP and Defenses.

You could also find an Eldegoss blowing by you on the way to Hulbury or how that Drednaw shows up in Galar Mine no. 2 on your way to challenge Kabu. Basically if people skipped out on certain Pokemon the game was giving you another chance to catch them before they might be needed.

1. Kid's love legendary Pokemon they have designs that are meant to look "cool" and flashy signature moves that are meant to draw kids in.

2. A lot of people, kids included who played Sword and Shield haven't played the previous games to obtain the legends without having to buy older titles and even hardware in the case of games that haven't had modern remakes like Johto, Sinnoh and Unova. This is probably why remakes will go on forever too.
