Is there any point in playing the original instead of remake if I have never tried it?

Do you like the GameBoy aesthetic, and fucking around with weird mechanics and glitches? Go for the originals. Do you like extra content, QoL changes, confusing arbitrary changes, and teasing you with things you cannot have? Go with the remake. Gen 1 is pretty short if you don't have the brain of a small child, so if you want to breeze through it any time you can.

It's simple. Gen 1 has SOUL. Gen 3 is when they started cutting out Pokemon and making you pay for 5 full priced games + 2 Gamecube spinoffs to get them back. I avoid anything after gen 2 on pure principle alone.

Having to cheat to get what you want isn't acceptable in any game. The only way to play is the fair and legitimate way, and the only way to do that in gen 3 is to shell out for 7 fucking games. Bullshit. The fact that anyone ever accepted that is something to be shamed and ridiculed. I will forever make fun of Hoennbabs for letting these games go into the state they're in now.

If you have to call someone a zoomer to defend it it's worse. Good games are going to be good even if you didn't play them as a child. If they're not, they're not good, you're just a nostalgiafag. I can think of multiple series where I played a later installment before an earlier installment and ended up liking the earlier one more, because it was genuinely a better game. This is not the case with gen RB. FRLG is better in every way.

My first copy of Red was a stolen copy i bought for half price from my friend's bro who worked at Intertoys.
FR/LG are better in every way. The only thing Gen 1 has going for it are the glitches.

The strange mechanics of Gen 1 make it a very worthwhile experience in my opinion and will always make it charming in its own right. This was before Special was split into Special Attack and Special Defense, so that offers a unique experience you won't get in other games. Critical hits also work based on speed, which can be fun to mess around with. Venusaur's Razor Leaf is basically a 100% critical hit ratio and that is a ton of fun. Both of these things can make certain Pokemon a lot more fun to use. Gen 1 also has Yellow version which offers a unique set of circumstances that aren't easily replicated in Gen 3. They are easy to replicate in LG, but those games are very different in other ways. One of the biggest selling points to me is the connectivity with Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. They kind of simulate a modern postgame battle facility, and I think that is tons of fun. Gen 1 also has the original sprites, which I guess is a love it or hate it kind of thing for most people. Then there are the glitches and such which is also the same kind of thing people have mixed feelings on. All of it is appealing to me. My feelings are the same on the unique DV/Stat Experience system present here and in Gen 2.

Gen 1 is really buggy and has the least amount of QoL. Also the graphics are really bad even for GB standarts. Imo FRLG are the best way to experience the original Kanto region. They fix the bugs Gen 1 had, add a few QoL changes and some post game content in form of the Sevii Isles.
Let's go lacks the added content and feels much more like a watered down Pokemon experience do to the capture mechanic isn go. Also I think let's go just looks bad for a switch game, whereas FRLG's sprite graphics hold up quite well considering the games are 16 years old now.

What's the best way to decide which pokemon should be available in a certain route if you are planning to make a region remake?
Take something like Route 7: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Kanto_Route_7#Pok.C3.A9mon
The choice is fairly different depending on which game/gen you look at.
