The reason the cold northern regions of the world are called the arctic is because Ursa Major and Ursa Minor (which are why Ursaring has a moonlike ring pattern btw), are bear constellations and are very prominent there, many ships use them to navigate. Then later when North America was discovered, we found out there coincidentally WERE bears in the arctic region, polar bears.
