Pokemon adventure in a once independent region now annexed by national government. The annexation was not easy (with implications it came after a costly war), and both the natives of the region and the frontiersmen who inhabited the region before the annexation have a bitter attitude towards how their traditional ways of life are being changed/displaced and how foreign involvement is affecting the pokemon ecosystem. As a result, some of these marginalized people form an evil team, who plan to use means such as violence, crime, and terrorism to displace the newly instated (and partially corrupt) regional government and restore their way of life.
You are to travel across the region, defeat the 16 gyms, elite 4, and champion and complete the Pokedex while thwarting the efforts of both the evil team and corrupt elements of the government.
You have 2 rivals. One is nice. The other is like blue except with criminal tendencies and a protagonist complex. He reflects on his ways after you defeat him for the champion title and decides to become a professor. The professor is the leader of the evil team, but he is only part of the evil team because he loves the region. By finishing the pokedex, you can present it to him as a way to end his violent ways and use the information you gathered to make a case for the region's traditional ways of life and ecosystem in court. There's a 3rd villain, who is the corrupt regional governor who you have to defeat as well.
I wanted to keep things simple and keep the focus on the game on what its actually about- winning the league and finishing the dex.
