replace the woman parts with fairy traits and you're good. Basically a stick figure, vaguely alien-like, gardevoir with wings or .....or ....... make it feminine-like full bird. But maybe it is a"flying fish" instead, that way you can replace the beak with lips, and that way you get a mermaid+harpy hybrid

Ignoring if it is a coincidence or not, I now realize that the harpies of mythology were really a misinterpretation of a real animal, as happened with the king cobra, rhinoceros, dugongs, or the strange case of centaurs that actually they were nomadic horsemen, but remained in the collective subconscious even after the Greeks tamed horses by themselves.

I feel like Florges would be a good contender for a harpy design. It’s head is ambiguous enough to be animalistic and humanoid.
In fact, a regional flying type form can work too. Since Florges is based on a mermaid, which are half fish, you could remove her lower half and replace them with something more bird-like.
The flowery mane would be replaced with a feathery one, something similar to rufflet

I vote Barn Owls. They’re faces are unusual for a bird and I can imagine it would scare the shit out of some Greek peasant. Plus they were associated with Death, so it’s likely.

I understand your idea, but I would use it for another design, your idea is good, but it is like designing a centaur with wheels instead of legs or a mermaid with a lobster tail-legs, if they are ingenious designs, but they lose the original concept.

Have you ever heard about La Lechuza?
Admittedly I'm no expert but I did like the little story I saw on one of those lame History Channel monster shows - LL is a witch with the ability to turn into either a burning ball of flame or a spooky owl monster. Strix are just vampiric owls. There's also an Owlman.

I feel like if you did this you could do something like Eevee. You get a bland little girl-chick thing that can evolve into different forms.
