Most Pokemon are like that, you cant introduce something like Alakazam, Slowking, and Oranguru to the world that are apparently smarter and wiser than humans are and not do something with them. Same with Pokemon that have ludicrous capabilities like creating black holes and seeing the future.
There are just some things that should be expand on or at least used.

I've always maintained that because the pokedex is given to 10 year olds to fill, the entries are written by 10 year olds so they're all over the place and ridiculous.
Going on a pokemon journey is a mix of rite of passage, test for future trainers, and a very clever way for adults to see how their kids think.
