Maybe he's less sleepy too, but I like that doujin artists seem to hivemind that both Reds stuff themselves with food and doze in peculiar places. Green I used to hate the younger versions of, he was too cocky, but then I read some doujins where they explained his obnoxiousness as childish bravado to cover up his emotions for Red, and that's adorable.
I'll always think of SM Reguri as settled, chill, aware of each other's needs, warmly flirtatious, and all the good things that come from a long established relationship where they've cleared most hurdles. It's hard to resist dubbing that the best, but it wouldn't be so good without the contrasting awkward stages before where Green isn't honest with himself and takes time to really show how much Red means to him. Red has to develop too - beyond thinking he's being spoilt and selfish when he clings to Green without the pretense of a battle. I think he needs it spelt out to him that he's liked to accept it. He's not dense or oblivious but he doesn't like confronting people he likes, and acknowledging Green's contradictory gestures will get him an earful. Just showing his face gets him a battle, no wonder he's full of doubt. Green you idiot, show him some love.
After the league Red isolates himself on Mt Silver, but in fanart that only gives pixiv Red a bigger excuse to push his attachment on Green.
>I'm just cold>I have the right to miss you since I've been alone up here>If you don't like it beat me in a battleMasters shows us this curious middle ground where Green's switched from being competitive with Red to being competitive at Red's side. He still has steam to let off, there's still some pretense being exploited, but he's praising both Red and himself openly.
That's why if you like SM Reguri you like all the Reguri leading to that point. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
