Did you know? Much like a lyrebird, ( super rad animals by the way,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0ZffIh0-NA ) Noiverns have the uncanny ability to mimic sounds. It's not entirely perfect because Noivern's ears are designed more to create loud, explosive noises rather than intricate ones. Still they can roughly imitate in a slightly distorted way pretty much any sound they come across.
The primary purpose of the loudspeaker ears from an evolution perspective is to help it navigate in the dark. But then they learned more purposes for them—they use sound to scare the fuck out of prey to make them easier to subdue; to intimidate potential threats; to create loud low-pitch sounds that travel extremely far and allow communication with other Noivern across vast distances; for a wide array of mating calls; to create physical damage from the sound waves, for example breaking rock or splitting tree wood; to turbulate the water's surface and cause frightened fish to jump out of the water for easy prey; and to, if necessary and standing close enough, simply cause its opposition to go deaf by the sheer volume of noise it is capable of making.
Noivern are intelligent but not to the degree where they can compose their own music—they greatly enjoy hearing certain human music though, and have a real thing for it. Sometimes when Noivern fly around they'll pass the time by playing their own somewhat imperfect mimicry of human music they heard before.
