Kaiju were converted into Bug post gen 4. Bugs now get all of the detail and the usual fat rock or dragon type was left behind. Most looked silly anyways.

The Dragonite and Salamence lines didnt have much detail either. Flygon and Rayquaza had more detailed designs, sure, but the dragons really didnt get more texture in their designs until gens 4 and 5. Garchomp, Haxorus, Hydreigon, and Dragalge all have lots of detail.
