I know Smogon has ruined lives, like when Verlisify's girlfriend broke up with him because he spent every hour of the day fuming over Smogon, but has Smogon actually ended lives?

Yes, and? Ubers has always been OUBL, treating it as an actual tier didn't really start until gen VI when they started banning shit from Ubers.

Too good for the tier below, and too good for the tier above.
Not exactly the same, since Ubers isn't usage based, but most OU-banned mons are at least decent in Ubers.
