Sometimes I think those parents back in the 90's warning kids that Pokemon would brainwash them were right in some sense. Tajiri and Co. succeeded in making people psychologically dependent on the franchise from childhood and keeps raking in cash from all the buying and consumption to this day. With every new gen of Pokemon there's a new gen of kids to lure in and that's why the games, anime and merch are, have been and always will be marketed to children
Nostalgia is a product of all that and that's probably what keeps you from moving on. GF knows this and that's why they're still doing remakes and now adding more fanservice in the main games so old fans and new fans alike can keep buying and consuming. If you're truly stumped and wondering why Pokemon isn't the same anymore, just try breaking out of that cycle and finding new things to do with your time and waste less of your money on
