I think it's cute for such a menacing crime boss, and also for Archie who can sneak up behind and squeeze the life out of his taller colleagues. Short but powerful is nice.
It's hard to imagine an older Ethan because his side bang has a wild, boyish charm and you'd have to cut it to make him seem mature. It's his trademark though so you need some semblance of it to keep him recognizable. I suppose you could neaten it up but I don't think he'd look right with something as smooth and sleek as Grimsley's hair beak either.
I'd want him at least a couple inches taller than Silver, not just because Silver wouldn't have eaten well when he ran away from home as a kid, but because it makes it harder to escape Ethan's good natured greetings. Not towering tall like SM Red gets drawn but enough he pops his head over a crowd and waves to make things awkward. Lean muscle, looks skinny in a suit jacket but isn't a bony beanpole at all.
Always felt he had better fashion sense than Red as a kid so he's probably wearing designer sweaters, expensive sneakers. Basically Ethan has potential to look like a hot ikemen and then he entertains guests in a tent.
