What is it with VGC and Smogon players constantly at eachother's throats here? I've never seen any other community around a competitive game get so autistic over the fact that some people prefer a different format of play.

From what I've seen, it's way more common for VGC players to shit on Smogon than vice versa. I'm guessing that the reason is a combination of >>45143700 as well as VGC players being angry their format is discussed less despite being the official one. On a side note, I wonder how big the anti-smogon crowd on this board actually is. Is it a large group of people who dislike it, or is the vast majority of the anti-smogon shitposting just done by a tiny group of autists?

Something about high tier comp play brings out the nasty side in a lot of people. You see some real shit flingers if you go to a fighting game tournament. Don't know why people find it so hard to be good and kind at the same time.

I can't account for all VGChads, but I learned to hate Smogon for a variety of reasons.

You go on any forum with actual decent players and nobody gives a shit about this kind of thing, they just talk about the formats they do play. Smogon is more popular because it appeals to people's desire to play a meta that's run by people who actually play and uses the format that's used for most of the game rather than the one players are conditioned to see as a gimmick and an annoyance. This pisses off VGCfags because they don't like seeing their meta get overshadowed by literal fanfic.
VGC is official because it's run by Gamefreak. This pisses off Smogonfags because they don't like having to accept that their meta will never be legitimate.
VGCfags bitch about Smogon existing, Smogonfags bitch about VGCfags reminding them that VGC exists, and this goes on in a never ending cycle.

In reality there's a huge overlap between Smogon and VGC players, the other day Wolfe Glick did a video with a big name Smogon player where they fucked around in some Smogon games
