Like what? From what I seen,
it looks like Rock type represents huge boulders, and/or sand (which is basically just rocks crushed down to tiny sediments).
Whereas Ground type represents the layers of earth walk upon, and/or stuff that lives underground.

Having both Rock and Ground is redundant when you can combine them into one type that deals with any earth-related matters.

It looks like Ghost type represents spirits, and/or spooky things (which are basically just spirits with a different name)
Whereas Fairy type represents arcane beings, and/or trickster mons

Having both Ghost and Fairy type is redundant when you can combine them into one type that deals with any arcane matters

Rock type Pokemon are made out of Rock or rock-like material
Rock type moves are mainly throwing Rocks

Ground type Pokemon are animals that dig or live underground OR are made out of loose/soft material like sand, mud or clay
Ground type moves are sand, mud, erosion

And that's the problem here. Ground type is already being too broad. There's a big difference between "pokemon that live underground but aren't made of sand/mud/clay" (such as furry moles like Excadrill) and "pokemon made of sand/mud/clay" (such as the golem Claydol). And yet, even though Ground type is so broad, it still excludes "rocky pokemon" like Regirock.

If Ground type is already being so broad, why not just merge it with Rock into a new broad type (Earth type) that covers anything earth-related?

My biggest problem with ground is how damn vague it is. Why the fuck do Nidoking, Donphan, and Cubone have it? Shit, why is Golurk ground and not rock?

Ground may be broad, but it doesn't cover rocks though

Rocks are hard, if you hit them they break that's why it's weak against fighting and steel
Ground doesn't care, it can be molded

Nidoking is an overgrown rabbit, so it's the same as Bunnelby
Cubone, bones are considered ground, this is rather a special case but bones are generally in the ground so it's not that unreasonable
Donphan = ???

It's a rubber tire so maybe they wanted to give it electric immunity? I have an idea, they should make tusk ground move, so it would develop on idea that bones are ground and give it to Donphan line and Mamoswine line.

Hoopa is a genie with teleportation gimmick.

Lugia is a problematic, because we know that it was supposed to be water but they wanted make it strong and special and basing on what they did in generation I, Psychic was seen as great type.
