It's like if Pikachu riding a Charizard was it's own entity. It doesn't add anything and it's just a dumb concept.
Maybe if it was a side-thing, like those Flying Battles, where it changed some things depending on who was riding what, it would be neat, but just for a singular Pokemon to suddenly be different because it's on a horse? That's just dumb. If you want to argue 'story' just have them have a relationship similar to Remoraid and Mantine, where it's only in Lore. Maybe even show it in the overworld, have Calyrex fall off the horse when you encounter it and capture the horse later.
I still think that the fusion Pokemon were dumb, but at least it made rational sense in battle since they became one entity. This is just two Pokemon on the battle field at once. If Calyrex became like, the head of the horse, it'd still be dumb, but it'd make sense. It's just an addition that doesn't add anything.
