Hau's niceness and happy attitude was always a facade. His entire arc was about being honest with others and to himself, so finally admits he's not as strong as the player and continues training. Whenever he was talking about malasadas he was likely mocking the player.
He's more interesting as a character than Hop. Also has a better team.
