God, this season is fucking boring

I thought that changing the formula and with 2 protagonists this would be the second golden age of anime, but Goh is hateful, Chloe is insignificant, Leon and Galar are a waste, Ash is exaggeratedly generic, finally we have a female rival and she has so much personality like a rock.

This series started with great ideas, but they were wasted, what is the purpose of Goh if instead of having its own merits if it is only becoming an Ash 2.0? what's Chloe's point if she's rarely showing up? What is the point of the rivalry with Bea if they made the passes in their second match? what is the point of watching Leon's battles if he has everything won thanks to the script?

The three openings that got the most likes were DP1st opening, XYZ, and OS first opening. Not surprised given that Anipoke twitter is ground zero for otakus.

A lot of otakus were brought back to Pokpemon thanks to XY's """mature""" tones (aka shounenfaggotry) and way too evident shipping. I don't really care about the Galar characters. I was hoping this series would center around the PWC as like the major long-form arc with mini-arcs developing Ash and his Pokemon among other things.

Instead, there's been random, disconnected, and incoherent fillers undermining the story at every turn + the actual PWC battles are fucking boring and badly animated as always.

This isn't even mentioning that it seems that the only Pokemon that exists on Ash's team seems to be Riolu and they aren't even making use of his screen time to the extent that they could. It has a decently entertaining personality and its relationship with Ash as great potential.

The only thing obnoxious with Riolu specifically is the waste of screentime. It's an entertaining Pokemon.

As far as Farfetch’d goes, sure, only problem is that atm they haven't done so and because of that Farfetch'd's a boring Pokemon. It doesn't have an entertaining personality to begin with and the writers have done it no favors thus far.

Personally, I want more Dragonite and Gengar since they're actually fun Pokemon.

Still though, I didn't have any hope for it as soon as the trailer for it was announced and as the plot was underway. It was clear the intent was to be a series full of slapstick idiocy and boredom so I give it more credit there for following through.

No one cares about any of that stuff. I swear the anipoke online fandom is in a massive bubble. Pokemon doesn't have enough depth to pull memorable arcs and it's character development is pretty straight forward since the characters are fairly simplistic. It succeeds when it sticks to being an episodic children show.

Most of those people just think the long length of 191 eps means tons of fillers, it doesn't. Now of course DP had some bad fillers from time to time, it's the same as any series. But it actually used most of its long length for important plot stuff.

Nah, Kanto reminds me of 90's anime like Sailor Moon or early Dragonball. It was a fun adventure series where you felt like anything could happen. It actually resembles those shows closely in terms of gags and some adult humor.

Did you read where I said " this isn't OS anymore? " For sure. Pokemon has actually been declining in popularity since OS, but there's absolutely nothing to suggest that going back to OS style has somehow made the series much more popular outside the online fanbase.

And that's me accepting your understating of the online fanbase lol. Many people communicate online now. There are Japanese forums discussing the Pokemon anime as well and anipoke twitter is huge. To just handwave all of that away is sheer lunacy.

Personally, I found Kanto to be great cause of the incredibly entertaining characters and the scenarios + banter amongst themselves that came with it.

However, as I said, no other season of the anime has specifically hit what was great about OS and there's nothing there to suggest replicating that OS's plot style is good for the anime.

The only thing SM and OS share are their episodic structure. When it comes to quality, that's where the comparison ends.

I started at OG yes. However, I just happen to go my way to look back at series when my critical views change, and that includes realizing how much a shitfest OG was. Even if I my first series was Hoenn or God forbid Kalos, I'd still do that simply because I don't hold back from criticizing shitty things about the whole Pokémon franchise.

The main anime has always had problems since the beginning, so did Edgeventures, same with the online series and so on. In objective standpoints, there's no such thing as a good Pokémon adaptation.

I can only think of the OG YuGiOh and that was quite successful for a kids show. XY was also well received, it's just that the producers wanted to appeal to a younger audience so they shifted the tone after XYZ. Aside from that, I can't recall any other serious shows ... Bakugan maybe? But that was also quite successful.
Stuff like Digimon, Kirby right back at ya and Sonic were more child oriented so they don't count.

You kind of have to experience this kind of thing yourself to be able to understand Serena's logic. When the person who you like doesn't reciprocate even after you've tried to make an impression, you can't exactly force that person to like you in return. All you can do is sorta confess and let it go. The fact that Youkai Watch dominated the XY era proves XY /XY&Z wasn't really well received among the younger audience that the anime aiming toward.

Digimon Adventure 01 was the only edgy kids anime with serious overreaching plot that was actually successful but all its sequel flopped.

Kids anime with serious overreaching plot only work when they meant to end with one season, not when it continously run for 23 years. Even Precure is more lighthearted if you actually watch it.

The whole concept of Pokemon is built around "hunting down" magic animals and making them fight in tournaments. That's literally the premise of both the game and the anime(I'll be a Pokemon Master). That's why edginess/some serious stuff doesn't seem out of place in the Pokeverses. Ash, the MC, may seem childish but it's a self sustaining organic world.

Until you watch the first Youkai Watch movie that broke the record of Pokemon first movie.

Lol Digimon is the anime with the "kids go to imaginary magic world adventure" trope. At the end of the day, they still go home safe and sound as usual in such cartoons after they finish playing their games. It's a metaphor so that real life kids can relate. That's exactly why Pokemon is way more immersive - the world is self centered without any parallel unvierse bullshit from the MC's point of view. There's no sense that "oh this isn't real it's just an imaginary world" from Ash's point of view, it's very real. That's why events in Pokemon hold more importance. You have to be absorbed in the worldbuilding in Pokemon to feel the impact of the narrative and the anime does a good job with luring the viewers into that world.
Digimon is "realism", Pokemon is "idealism".
Pokemon is better than Digimon.

Cause they wanted to make Ash easier to animate. It's the same reason they simplified everyone else's design as well in SM. The SM and PM art styles are based on deformation and exaggeration. A lot of detail is stripped away.

I do think the art style does also reflect. Ash's personality as well. PM Ash has more in common with SM Ash in personality and action than he does with XY/XYZ Ash for example.

It's why I'm excited for the new Pokemon movie. Not only is Yajima directing it, but Ash is stylized really well, much moreso in the XY/XYZ style so I think it's reasonable to assume a somewhat different Ash versus the current one in the series

Part of it is also because it's what people just recently watched, so it's more recent on everyones minds. The older seasons like AG/DP some might not have watched now in a decade, but XY and SM are the two most recent sagas so they're the most talked about.

Honestly even DP is not really talked about as much as it used to, you see people mention Dawn and Paul and sometimes Infernape, but even then discussion has really died down. In a few years time it'll be like AG where mostly the people who grew up with it will think of it fondly but younger generations will just view it as an old saga,

The battle choreography is shit, that much is true. That clearly has a lot to do with the 3D camera being removed and Yajima not directing anymore.

The fights are just badly storyboarded and directed. The tank in consistent battle quality was a sight to behold since the differences were blatantly obvious.

Lance VS Leon was atrocious for what was supposed to be the battle of the strongest tournament battlers in the Pokemon World. Underwhelming AF and the 1 VS 1 made no sense. I think that the ashnime producers at OLM and GameFreak want the Pokemon anime to stop being a unique kodomo show with shonen and shoujo fantasy elements and change its format into a more cliche generic Beyblade tier product so that they could be more free and lazy with the script/characters with less pressure from the hardcore fans and appeal to more kid viewers who don't give a damn about the Kalos league even if it means subtly ditching the spirit and leagcy of the show, all while cutting the costs on battle animation etc. XY was imo the last season where you could see actual SPECIAL EFFORT put into the show.
I'm not hating on SM or PM2019, this is just my personal opinion.
That was the vibe I got from this new show. It felt like some generic ... idk sth like a generic OG Duel Masters anime episode rather than that trademark "Pokemon" feel. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

I'm not sure what you watched in XY/XYZ to make such a take, but the battles in XY/XYZ were incredible in large part because of the 3D camera.

Even just looking at Iwane's battle cuts in XY/XYZ vs SM/PM, the difference is stark.

Just take a look at Ash v Wulfric and Ash v Olympia and contrast that with Ash vs Bea and Ash v Visquez.

Both battles are ones that Iwane had a large part in, but the former is just leaps ahead of the latter when it comes to quality.

I remember some months ago Lillie/SM fans were always saying that Lillie was the most popular pokegirl (or at least tied with Serena) then a youtuber who always shills Lillie made a poll of the most popular girl and Lillie got 20% of the votes and Serena like 65% lol, and that poll didn't even include DP and older series pokegirls. Other polls came out and sometimes Lillie didn't even reach the top 5.

SM is already very well liked, why they are so obssesed with making it seem like it's everybody's favorite, why can they be happy that their favorite series is liked instead of all the gaslight?
