X/Y were bland as fuck, S/M were a huge breath of fresh air afterwards. I respect them for ditching gyms and wanting to do something different and unique for these games, and I loved how well they fleshed out the region and its culture. Only problem is they prevent you from actually exploring this region because they're railroading the fuck out of you, alongside the glaring cut content.
