Sw/Sh flopped hard for a pokemon game put on a platform with a userbase as large as the Switch's. I am pretty confident they will turn the franchise around because they are missing out on fat potential cash. My only hope is they get it together BEFORE the DP remakes and not after.

If you're calling a ~30% attach rate a flop then I'd love to see what you'd call the DS games, which pulled lower numbers with a userbase almost three times larger than the Switch.

So... in what way is it a flop? Almost a third of all Switch owners bought it. As opposed to the ~10% of DS owners who bought BW. Pokemon has always had a pretty rock solid audience, with major releases peaking around 15-17 million sales. The fact that this not only translated perfectly but actually grew with the release of SwSh means it's anything but a flop. There's no argument you could make that points towards SwSh being a flop. It's not a matter of quality, saying the game didn't sell really well is just plain denial.

You are forgetting of the Switch's huge base combined with Pokemon's vast history. The expected performance from a game from this franchise should have decimated the other switch games by huge margins. Instead, we have Animal Crossing beating it for the first time in history and Sw/Sh is chillin at the 5th best selling switch game while past pokemon's raped the charts.

Thats a big ass sugar coat. It is because Animal Crossing wasn't rushed and put out a decent product. As an AnCro fan, it wasn't even a perfect Animal Crossing game. It could desperately use more dialogue. However it was well done, looks polished as fuck, and didn't cut massive amounts of features from past versions due to time constraints or desire to sell DLC.

I really don't think this is the case, Pokemon games have performed around the same level for years now, they have a pretty good understanding of exactly how large Pokemon's consumerbase is. Despite their popularity the audience for the games themselves is relatively niche, which is why the major releases all sell the same amount regardless of what hardware they're on. You could argue that the series has failed to broaden its appeal but that's not really a big mystery since the games have stayed largely the same. I find it hard to believe that anyone at Game Freak or Nintendo was expecting SwSh to break the mold for whatever reason. A game not having a massive spike in sales compared to previous entries doesn't make it a flop, it just means it's performing as expected.

Nothing about the series' sales numbers agrees with you. SwSh didn't have the hype that BotW and Smash had, wasn't completely redesigned to achieve maximum appeal like BotW was, and didn't launch at the beginning of a pandemic that forced everyone inside and made them reflexively crave a game that simulated something akin to normalcy like ACNH. SwSh performed very well considering prior game sales and the idea that they expected it to perform dramatically better for no discernable reason is retarded. Pokemon was never one of those games people just bought on a whim because they owned the handheld/console. If it was then the DS games would have certainly sold more than 15~ million copies. The series as a whole has some massively broad appeal but the mainline games themselves are relatively niche. Always have been.

You can not consider this due to changing markets. The customer base for the switch is huge when compared to other bases. This changes it so more people are buying games in general. You have to compare ratios of Switch game sales to ratios of other era's game sales in order to not misuse logic.

What is relevant is how most of those titles have stalled sales momentum (Mario due to his bundle, Zelda due to Hyrule Warriors coming out to cover the war of 100 years prior to BotW) while pokémon's got a fresh physical release (along with new content in less than 24 hours) running into its second holiday sales period. Only an utter buffoon could be arguing the games under performed, when all metrics point to them obliterating series sales records handily.

You are just furthering my point that the markets and customer base were different and thus the need to look at ratios of game sales from similar dates and markets. Do not compare Pearl to Sw/Sh because the DS market is not the same as the Switch's. Compare D/P to Wild World and then compare that ratio to Sw/Sh : NH.
