those combos are fucking useless in doubles and you would know that if you played them.
regigigas is getting protect and rest and that will be enough to run some meme sets in singles, just don't expect it to always pull through

Well, yeah, the point of Regigigas is to be as weak and pathetic as possible. It's a golem covered in moss that hasn't been active in millennia. It's not a legendary like Dialga or Palkia, it's supposed to be more like Slaking. Getting rid of Slow Start would literally defeat the purpose of Regigigas. I also take any statement that it's supposedly getting Protect with a grain of salt. That would be a bad idea too.

Regigigas is better without Protect, because if you're able to stall out your Slow Start, you'll feel a genius. Protect just makes it so any random pleb can stall it out whenever they want. Just ruins a Pokemon that was meant to be played with high intelligence and the ability to read your opponents.

It doesn't matter if neutralizing gas works on Slow Start or not, because G Weezing is a shitmon that will just get OHKO on its first turn out.
You'd be better off pairing it with Confagrigus/Runergius and tapping it.

I tested regular Weezing (since there will be a rise of steel types) with Regigigas on showdown and some success with it. It can work if Gigas spams max strike to lower speed. Just gotta spam protect on Weezing and throw support moves every other turn like it usually does.

Neutralizing Gas is pretty effective against several of the most popular strategies in the VGC meta, I've been totally destroyed by it while running stuff like G-Max Coalossal that's totally dependent on activating abilities to be successful.

Why not?
Neutralizing Gas hasn’t been released along side Regigigas and Slaking, which have Uber stats.
The only similar combo I can think of is when you would use Skill Swap, which costed a move slot and required a turn to use.
Neutralizing Gas not only removes Slow Start/Truant, giving yourself a Pokemon that otherwise would be Ubers, and you also remove the opponent’s beneficial abilities like Grassy Surge, Unseen Fist, Intimidate, and Sand Rush.
Weezing-G is already Tier 2 in doubles (Basically A rank), so letting a Pokemon that is actually pretty fast, has incredible bulk, and of course Atk to rival Hoopa seems pretty fair.

why are they so averse to changing how its ability works to not deactivate on switch-out
protect and rest are just bandaids that cheapen the experience, instead of a difficult task of keeping something useless like slow gigas in play for 5 turns they just turn it into a setup mon with only two moves

Weezing isn’t completely defenseless, especially not when you have a behemoth like Regigigas to back you up.

And remember that Neutralizing Gas stop abilities like Sand Rush and Unseen Fist, so Regigigas can outspeed a ton of Pokemon that rely on Speed abilities, and both get more protections from Urshifu-R bypassing protect, Incineroar switching in, and weakens the attacks of Pokemon that rely on their abilities.

Not only that, but Weezing compliments Regigigas’s coverage nicely. It can help it against the Fighting types that would threaten Regi out with Strange Steam, and Regigigas Knock Off the Psychic types that would threaten Weezing.
If you also get into a bad situation, you can always switch out both since you can never be trapped by STag or Arena Trap.

They really weren't. Not compared to other legendaries, at least.
And even if they were, Regigigas is kind of a big deal in lore, considering the fact that it pulled the continents around. Definitely the most significant sub-legendary and more important than even some regular legendaries.
It's not like Slaking, which is just a regular mon and needs to be balanced compared to other regular mons.

On-topic, Neutralizing Gas only fails to suppress the abilities that Gastro Acid fails to suppress, which are usually the form change abilities like Multitype, Disguise, Gulp Missile, Ice Face, Power Construct, etc. I think Slow Start would be neutralized like normal, it neutralizes Truant at least (on Durant)
