Lightning Rod is one of the better abitlies for it to have, since it's immune to electriic. Real suffering is Palossand, who is stuck with Water Compaction. Sure having a defense boost is decent, but that water attack will always outspeed and 2-shot. Not to mention a vast majority of water users are special. a

Right, but if you played the games pre-gen5 and were familiar with the fact that lightning rod didn't give immunity you might wonder why they added it to the line. It's not like they gave patch notes or in game text saying they changed the ability function

Actually, I just learned that now Lightning Rod can be used in the overworld to force Electric type encounters. I know they want to have some secret effects on abilities but it would be cool if they added some in-game dialogues or something to present these changes. Like "Hey, I had a Pokemon with the Lightning Rod ability and for some reason I'm finding more Pikachus" or something

It's definitely an ability made for doubles. Give a physical attacker with low special attack Surf and have them spam that while Palossand dynamaxes and buffs its special defense with Max Quake.
