has gone extinct =/= is currently extinct. It means that eventually people resurrected enough Amaura fossils to rebuild the population after it was previously extinct much like how modern dex entries say Lapras was saved from extinction thanks to conservation efforts.

"Extinct" is a relative term that only encompasses the human fraqme of reference. Not even in Pokemon do they have planetary scans that log every lifeform.

I think you missed his second half. We have IRL said species are extinct cause we no longer saw them until they were found again. People who think it's that easy to tell if it's truly extinct or so near we miss it are often people who failed basic science.

Rarely is something in media even hard extinct like the oldest life here is too.

A species is never declared extinct unless its full natural range has been monitored.
It happened in the past that some species classified as extinct have been found again in remote hidden places but that's an extremely rare occurrence and if you think it's what game freak was implying with their dex description you're just making up excuses for them.
If the Amaura species was reintroduced in the wild or rediscovered the dex entry would have simply said so.
