MAPs and the like seem very intent on destroying every single last shred of dignity, if they even ever had any; I just personally think that help should be available to anyone who needs it, wants it and is willing to make sacrifices for it, without getting their life uberruined by the state of society (it's already pretty much ruined at that point anyway).
I don't think lolicon leads to more cases of sexual assault, but I can't say I've seen the numbers on it, and it's definitely not "wrong" to be disgusted by the phenomenon.
While it's definitely a different beast entirely (as this is about the subject of the sexual act rather than the situation), the backlash against things like non-con or (semi)-incestuous fantasies is also steadily declining, and we'd hardly put someone in therapy because they jerk it to Step Fantasy or """unassuming""" girl porn. We like to pretend this isn't the case as society, but the prevalence and popularity of these genres speaks for itself, and shows us that clearly, we as humans, have things we fantasize about (and even potentially roleplay) but would not actually want in a real-life setting.
The pedophilia issue here is different because there is no romantic/ sexual outlet whatsoever if the person in question is only interested in children. However, it's a similar phenomenon, and I believe discussion of the fact and well-intentioned research can only serve to help everyone in the end.
In the case of the on-topic anime girls though, there are also "varieties" of lolicon. The LGPE girl is completely different in terms of age looks from someone like Lillie, who is then again quite a bit away from someone like Marnie or Hilda. Many of these anime designs would easily pass for a couple years older if that was on the paper instead because that's just what anime is like.
