Unique looking and basic idea, but the eyes always made it look like a geek. It is related to one of my favorite preevolutions, so it's okay.

Mostly due to childhood experience, though it's worth mentioning I specifically like the Trapinch line as opposed to just Flygon, as each stage is very visually distinct from each other, whilst still retaining an overarching cute sandy bug theme that climaxes with the cool looking draconic-dragonfly visuals that Flygon has.

Back in 2003, I had no access to internet so I didn't even know this fucker existed back then since I never fought a trainer with a Vibrava or a Flygon because I was too stupid to make it past Victory Road.

I feel like Hoenn had a lot of these that are pretty common to run actually. Swampert, Aggron, Camerupt, Wishcash, Altaria, both fossils, Groudon, Salamence, Metagross, etc.

Base forms don't necessarily represent the same things as their evolutions thanks to how design works at Gamefreak.

Dragonite's the way it is because Ken Sugimori made the last form but not the first two. It's a european dragon when it evolved from things way more inspired by the east.

You get it at lv. 19-21 (19-22 in Emerald). It doesnt require more leveling than the average 1st stage starter to reach Vibrava. Its speed and bulk suck but you can patch that up with Eviolite in ORAS or rely on Quick Claw hax in older games.
