Collectible cards always keep some value, and Pokémon has had a history of being pretty damn expensive. Right now the mainstream public has been introduced to the concept of collecting through a combination of youtube and needing something to preoccupy themselves with during rona lockdowns, so prices are even more ridiculous. Combine that with collectors autism of wanting near mint or even graded cards and you're sure to have expensive cards.
