this is the core I'm working on myself, using Spectrere as a WP proctor for Metagross. Since Zapdos Kantonian gets Hurricane now I figure he'd be a perfect fit for a rain team. Looking for advice on what to focus on to round the team out.

I was horrified to see he gets about as good move distribution as Regidrago/eleki. Guess 145spA 130speed needs to be balanced somehow, even after such shit physical defense. Like at least Urshifu can run Ass Vest to deal with its crippling SpD. What can Spectrere do?

Kinda agree, as soon as I realized it doubled a Pokemon's HP I knew Gen 8 would be all about Weakness Policy spam. I honestly wish they quit with the gimmicks and we got old fashioned straight up Pokémon battles again :(

I will say I think it's the best gimmick yet, but because Megas and Z moves were not something I was fond of. Good old fashioned gimmickless battles are the tops though.

if you're going to focus on defense boosting you may as well not be at the disadvantage state in the first place, mixed attackers are typically trying to kill or sweep up for a kill before dying quickly and are usually pokemon who do not have the power to survive an attack anyway. If you take a pokemon who can initially survive something with no or minimal investment then taking that away and not surviving something you could have is 99% of the time not worth it.

EVs look like they’ll need some work but this looks good enough to start with. Happy Lele doesnt get Expanding Force cause that combo with Thievul would be extremely canerous. I’d consider some other move on Thievul over Howl, your only physical attacker is Metagross so it doesnt seem like you’ll get to use it often.

You can also use Stakataka and Hatterene
Keep in mind it's really obvious that they're gonna TR so make sure you have something to protect them with like redirection

Judging Pokemon in a context of the game they first appeared in doesnt make sense from a competitive standpoint. Competitive didnt start getting popularity until gen 3, and the VGC circuit wasnt launched until 2008.

Charizard is easily one of the most successful Pokemon on that list, in VGC and smogon alike.

Fiery Wrath is a spread damage move which is just really strong; spread damage dark just didn't exist before, and it can make problems for a lot of strategies as redirection + Trick Room is common (the vast majority of TR setters are ghost or psychic type) and you always have the psyspam stuff and basically everything that learns Expanding Force is weak to dark. You're even bulky enough to threaten to survive a turn setting up Nasty Plot, and then you just have a nuke on your hands. If I'm being honest, I think that for all the downsides Moltres-G has, it has by far the best of the signature moves, and that's something I think is really easy to overlook.

I don't think you need to use Staka as a TR setter when the HattDeedee combo is already so good, but rather it replaces Rhyperior's function on TR teams as a bulky Dynamax sweeper

There's only a few things I think need to change about dynamax (and certain items when dynamax is available)

Beat Up Whimsicott is a classic partner. Tailwind and other prankster moves makes it a good general support mon even if you decide to not lead with TerraCott.
Dragapult and Salazzle are other options I've seen.

You only need one offensive move most of the time (Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Clear Smog or Pollen Puff, I’m a fan of Sludge Bomb since it fucks over Fairies). Sounds like a very offensive core. You’d need a good Ground type bait (Lando, Mamo, Chomp) and a way to counter Trick Room. Honestly putting Glastrier with a TR setter/reverter like Dusclops could be extremely good here. They’d feel forced to bring the Ground type every time they see your Electric core which Glastrier utterly fucks over like nothing else in the format.

Kinda similiar to doubles I think. I played in a triples online competition back in gen 5 and it was actually really big brained once you understood how the mechanics worked. Pivoting was even more powerful than in singles and doubles since you had moves which couldnt reach the Pokemon furtherst away from your position, so in case of a bad matchup you just u-turned out to the other side of the battlefield. Its a shame GameFreak dropped both triples and rotations.

You want High Horsepower and Yawn to cuck Dynamaxes for sure. I’d personally run Slack Off and Fissure too, for instant recovery and discouraging the opponent from treating you like a passive threat, but Protect is also an option. For EVs I dont see a reason to run anything other than max/max Impish, the meta is really physically offensive atm, and you win against shit like Regieleki by default anyways.

I think I found the team I'll start off with on Sunday. The basic idea is that Tornadus/Dusclops can each trigger Metagross' WP and then allow you to control the speed through either TR or being able to deny TR with Taunt and/or use Tailwind with Tornadus. Not perfect and the spreads aren't final, but it's by far the most consistent team I've used in the past few days.

Best way to grind money is to use G-Max Meowth in the Pokémon league rematches/Star Tournament and use his G-Max move once every fight, let him hold Amulet Coin for good measure.

The Master Ball is actually really useful if you're resetting for a 0 speed Pokemon. I can't imagine resetting for 0 speed Glastrier without using a Master Ball to make it happen; actually having to manually wear down and catch Calyrex the 50ish times it took would be pure torture.

That being said, when playing online, watch for what ball Glastrier comes out of. If it's a Master Ball, it's probably 0 speed. If it's not a Master Ball, either it's probably not 0 speed or it's just a hacked Glastrier (which sadly, is pretty likely).

Best way is grinding Watts with the digging dude on Isle of Armor and trading them for Luxury Balls with the Watts Trader and then selling the balls away. Can easily get milions with relatively little effort. Buying through the vending machine is good since you can buy in bulk of 25 and the vitamins are half their regular price.

Metagross is one of the most successful Pokemon in VGC history, AFAIK its been on winning Worlds team twice. Its very good this season as well since it never dies under Dynamax, his WP is easy to trigger and it fucks up Glastrier who is a bitch to kill otherwise.

VGC in 2015-2016 was hit with a triple whammy of TPCi introducing entry fees for tournaments, the format sucking ass and Nugget Bridge getting hacked and then dying. While the numbers and interest are going up again I dont think we ever fully recovered. Above all there is no central website for VGC analysis and discussion like smogon (there is Victory Road and Trainer Tower but neither are community hubs, just occasional articles) and people who take VGC seriously are busy attention whoring on Twitter and trying to kickstart their Twitch careers to care. On the upside Verlis dropped off the face of earth and no one cares if you inject your mons anymore.

Yeah its a shame, I saw many popular Youtubers and Twitch streamers switching to VGC this season but the meme virus kind of destroyed that. They are struggling to keep the interest up even with the veteran players due to the lack of IRL tournaments.
