>>45237444>Because it severely cuts down on the amount of tedious loading in and out of battles I otherwise have to sit through when looking for wild Pokémon.Agreed.
>Because I no longer have to enter an area populated with wild Pokémon and dread the constant random encounters if I forgot to bring Repel.Bring repels next time, I guess?
>Because it gives me, the player, more agency in playing the game. I choose what to battle and what to ignore.Honestly I think it trivializes exploration and dungeons if you can just skip every Pokemon encounter on the route, there should be at least one or two that can catch you off guard in an area which is something that routes sometimes succeed at doing but the Wild Area falls flat with since you can pull out the bike and outspeed them whenever you want.
>Also because it makes the world feel more alive.I think it worked kinda well in the routes but it's it's a fucking mess in the wild area, if anything the wild Pokemon rendering five feet in front of me takes me out of it more than anything and that even applies to some routes. Like
>>45237470 mentioned they just look super out of place and clash with the environment.
My favorites are the ones that are specifically designed around the route in a certain way like the Falinks in Route 8 and Stunfisk in the second mine. I like overworld encounters but I feel that the idea could be taken way further than it was in Sword and Shield, the best uses of it are in the routes which there's less of them than there's ever been and the roaming trio which were DLC. I actually like overworld encounters as an idea a lot but in its current state I wouldn't call it the best change they've made since Gen 4, for my money that's probably the removal of HMs.
