Oldfuck here, I haven't played pkmn since Sapphire. Should I look into getting the latest one for Switch? I know nothing of the game except people complaining about the Dex and animations.

Well usually, yeah, but the autism surrounding the pkmn fanbase makes it a bit difficult when you have one group saying the game is fine and others spreading FUD because muh national dex. Kind of makes it confusing for someone who hasn't been keeping up with the franchise.

Play Platinum or Black & White if you want a genuinely good single player experience.

Play SWSH if you're interested in competitive battles.
