Gen 8 is shit, but Calyrex is the best part of the game and I'm honestly surprised they actually fucking animated the dance instead of just having there be a flash of light and the carrot just pop into existence.

People were still optimistic after XY though, we all though GF just needed time to get used to developing in 3D and it wasn’t yet apparent every future gen would revolve around a dumb new gimmick. There was a lot of bad in the games for sure but PSS was revolutionary at the time and the amount of content, while certainly a step down from BW2 wasn’t terrible compared to the first paired versions of any other generation. It wasn’t apparent how bad things really were until ORAS and when we realized we weren’t getting an improved 3rd version or sequel. When SM came out and amplified all the faults of Gen 6 plus some I knew things were over. Now in retrospect I hate gen 6 but I’d still rather be where we were in early 2013 with the franchise than where we are now...

I honestly don’t hate it, quite the contrary, but I’ve been here long enough to know that r/veepee regurgitates the same own drivel ad nausem for literal years.

My point is that Gen 8 is vilified now, just like Gen 4 and 5 were way back when they first came out. History will repeat itself.

Of you really don’t think the 3D games were a turning point I don’t know what to tell you. Anyone who was here back then could tell you despite all the shitposting it was genuinely different back then, the majority of the board actually played the games then. Nowadays serious SWSH players are genuinely the minority of the board.
