Consensus seems to be right now that Blaziken is good but often struggles with finding opportunities to really sweep between getting worn down from recoil/Life Orb, having to set up an SD first and having to carry the right coverage. Not to mention that you have to run Jolly because of how fast the meta is. It will probably turn out to be more broken once the the really obviously busted shit like Kyurem-B is gone though.

Genesect is extremely versatile and useful and with Download it allows itself to be capable of checking and even steamrolling a good chunk of the meta bar obvious exceptions like Heatran and Pex under Choice locks. Naganadel itself is also not surprising, despite its lack of Z Moves it can still start snowballing in the right conditions and it makes it hard to stop when it goes. What should be surprising is the lack of Kyurem-B or Blaziken ban favors. Kyurem-B with DD and Icicle Spear and Blaziken with Speed Boost SD still might be too much for the meta as the former if set up is hard to stop and the latter can SD on a switch and start snowballing.

This. Genesect (and honestly a lot of these quickbans are, I'm still fairly convinced almost all of them will be gone eventually) is a PR unban. It's good for content creators which also leads to more people on Showdown and Smogon while it's relatively easy to just get rid of it again quickly.

Zygarde became a problem last gen after enough time for people to come up with high octane bullshit sets that got it banned from OU. So it sort of makes sense for it to fly under the radar for a while, especially since we still have most of the broken shit

Toxapex needs to get its ass banned, too, but after the rest of the Killer 7 are gone too. Pex isn't that big of a deal with Lando, Zygarde, Kyurem-B, and some Magearna and Cinderace sets putting it in check, and it's a necessary evil to deal with a lot of the other cancer right now.

blaziken's inevitably going to eat a ban at some point but it's definitely a little easier to prepare for than naganadel. struggles more with 4mss, has a harder time setting up sd if it runs that, potentially gets cheesed by contact/recoil damage esp if you run like helmetchomp, etc. meanwhile naga could pretty much run what it wanted and you needed either fat ttar/tran or a way to beat 562 speed

It, Melmetal, and Cinderace will probably be the last men standing of the Ubers drops. I honestly expect Cinderace and Melmetal to stay, however, since Melmetal gets checked by a lot of the returning Pokemon, and Cinderace is slightly stronger Physical Greninja.

Anyone else think Spectrier is busted right now? I know Dark types wall it hard, but with all the U-turn cancer right now, Dark types are a liability, especially with Lando on the loose. Genesect getting banned takes off a lot of the pressure, however.

No, there's nothing immune to both Dark and Ghost, and Regieleki has only Electric type moves. Also, there are no usable Normal types in OU and Bug, Fighting, and especially Fairy is everywhere, meaning Dark is a liability too. Meanwhile Ground is the 3rd most present type (2nd now that Genesect is banned until Gen 9) in OU, and there's no reason not to have Lando/Lando/Chomp/Zygarde/Excadrill on your team right now.

Probably not. It would be a nerf, especially on the choice scarf sets, but Genesect can run a million different sets.
Shift Gear was underrated and its best set in my opinion and Download was only a factor half of the time.

Even if it uses shift gear, you can at least identify what it will do and counter accordingly. Because running shift gear heavily limits Genesect move pool.

Both get resisted by Dark, and Blissey can tank a lot.
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Spectrier Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 354-417 (49.5 - 58.4%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO
A +2 Life Orb Hyper Beam barely does over half to Blissey, and Blissey then can just heal off the damage, cripple it, or teleport to something faster.
And god forbid a Spectrier has to face a Tyranitar.

There are other Pokemon with great move pools and offenses to boot, but Genesect having the choice to go physical, special, or even mixed would make dealing with it a dice roll and it's got a shitton of resistances. It would have to take a wildly different approach to its builds since it wouldn't be able to cruise around on Scarf and slamming shit with boosted coverage moves anymore.

Ice Beam
One of the major reasons Zygarde became so much stronger in Gen VII (aside from Thousand Arrows) is Ice Beam dropped off as a common coverage move

Dude what, Joey plays in SSD and PL both of which require active participation with the smogon community and mods/community leaders. He also plays WC too. He's has vids with Finch and gets teams from a lot of good tournament players. The staff who make the tiering graphics for drops/rises in tiers give him the image in advance for his vids. I think your misremembering from vids, Joey does talk about how he disagrees with OU tiering and the council and he's had issues with the gen 7/8 metagames but he's it's nothing like what your describing.

It doesn't need Fire. Earth Power hits all grounded steels and Ice Beam hits Flying steels neutrally, still at 2HKO on something like specially defensive Corviknight.
Because of Earth Power (which normal Kyurem has) you don't need Fusion Flare to hit Heatran.
KW is going to use Ice Beam, Freeze Dry, Draco Meteor and Earth Power on both scarf and specs sets, the same moves regular Kyurem uses.

Modest is easy to revenge kill while Timid doesn't hit hard enough without Z-Moves due to Draco Meteor drops.
Show me Neganadel snowballing with Dragon Pulse and I'll believe it. Fucking SpD Heatran is great and eats Naga alive without any further dedication because there's no HP Ground.

Genesect is totally broken but OU is always better and funner with it around. The offensive and pivoting glue that keeps everything in check no matter how broken. But it's always the first in the house of cards to go every gen. Within a month we'll be back to Clef, Zeroara, and Pex pivoting and knocking off for 100+ turn games. It's part of why gen 7 was so good because they just kept all the technically broken stuff around so there was always enough offense to keep degenerate regen stall from getting completely out of hand.

It doesn't hit hard without SD and FlareBlitzz/CC as it's STABs just lead it to killing itself due to recoil, drops, LO, helmet, and priority. 80 speed is really slow so you need a turn for the boost. And even with the boost, tons of scarfers still beat you. Jolly helps but then you are hitting even weaker. It's so frail that it is really hard to set up the SD against anything but like Ferrothorn and a couple others. Something few people are talking about is Boots means things aren't getting chipped by hazards as much so you need to weaken the whole oppo team with damage before Blaziken can even hope to sweep as he's not strong enough to sweep any full HP mons.

That's the problem with said offensive threats like Genesect and GDarm. They're too strong in general, not just against stall, so they've gotta go. It's why stall breakers like Staraptor, Breloom, and Gliscor are a necessity, but lo and behold, all 3 of them are gone. Breloom would've shit on Pex with its poison heal set. Staraptor basically deletes a stall-mon (and itself) for free. Gliscor doesn't fear burns or knock-off after it gets its poison up either.

Blaziken doesn't struggle that much. It was always shit in Ubers because of the exact Pokemon that just dropped down with it (I'm not talking about the Pokemon specifically, but Uber Pokemon in general). When Zygarde gets banned next week, Blaziken will have a much easier time setting up and sweeping. When Landorus goes, it'll be even easier for Blaziken, who will then probably be on the chopping block for Ubers again.

The only 2 drops I actually expect to not get culled are Melmetal, which is actually kinda bad, and Cinderace.
