>>45261469If you look at the trend from megas to z moves to dynamax, they moved towards universality and adjusting on the fly and away from locking in before the battle starts. With megas you need to equip and item and it's only for certain pokemon, meaning if your mega has a bad matchup, it's just wasted. With zmoves, anyone can use them, but you still need to use an item, so you still can have the bad matchup problem, but you can at least choose the best time in battle to use it. With dynamax you can choose the best time in battle to use it, and which pokemon to use it as well. Furthermore dynamax seemed to be more utility and defense focused; increases to health, buffing and debuffing, and setting weather and terrain are the main reason to use dynamax, and they let a balanced team have access to things that you used to have to bring dedicated setters for (you aren't locked into using Politoed or Pelliper if you want to run rain, etc.).
If we follow these trends, I could definitely see something like a fusion or team-up mechanic. Having both your Pokemon team up to use a move with some effect based on their typing. It would maintain the universality and dynamic nature of picking the best time to use it, and not being locked in before the battle. I guess it'd need to work differently in singles; maybe you'd pick another pokemon from your team if you select it?
Another idea could be something involving your hold item. Like you could burn your hold item to get a one time effect of your choice or something.
